I got the keys to my classroom<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I got the keys!!!! Woohoo, so excited, now the fun can begin :-)</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Here are picture of my space. It was previously a data room, so a lot of stuff is still in there.</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Excuse the mess :-) I guess I have some clean-up to do before I start.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"></span><br /></div>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"> Here is the front of the room</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdVd7Fpx5mq0xZ-CtFzNRrqA3qhNbMIn8_CD1cOn5eX4qs-QA7ZorJL19AtNn4oqKDBKIm2fyUFzVAI7sgSPfZmeQlsB-y_KtULsBrHV4J_xyKeeXF7UiP6X8fgTbe4ASybE_mNgkvkHOh/s1600/front+of+room2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdVd7Fpx5mq0xZ-CtFzNRrqA3qhNbMIn8_CD1cOn5eX4qs-QA7ZorJL19AtNn4oqKDBKIm2fyUFzVAI7sgSPfZmeQlsB-y_KtULsBrHV4J_xyKeeXF7UiP6X8fgTbe4ASybE_mNgkvkHOh/s1600/front+of+room2.jpg" height="240" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">A SmartBoard is on order, hoping to have it by the start of school. You can see my little munchkin making herself at home (notice the shoes on the floor). My oldest is hiding behind the overhead (<em>I haven't see one of those in a long time, forgot what they were called! Ha).</em></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Here is the back wall</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsjY4duun_f_rYkDoobNhQ6DHYQzHL7iLuXpFtaHhQhVizuBggPwmfXIHX45Ph71KXpRjtrH0GbT-er68u8lPHSOG1KW4_tf3yoy4ElQXNEDo4TsX-LnGUV2u1qnLPCgbLbwL6fuyPHn0Z/s1600/front+wall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsjY4duun_f_rYkDoobNhQ6DHYQzHL7iLuXpFtaHhQhVizuBggPwmfXIHX45Ph71KXpRjtrH0GbT-er68u8lPHSOG1KW4_tf3yoy4ElQXNEDo4TsX-LnGUV2u1qnLPCgbLbwL6fuyPHn0Z/s1600/front+wall.jpg" height="254" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">It is still a data wall, so all of that will have to go somewhere (not sure where though). The cabinet on the left will be my teacher cabinet. </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Here is the left wall, with windows :-)</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6__K2B4PE5Bq4iBRd3aKNleRhgwF2WtvrJusea9EVAgwAnU7hc9blRcSjLhrrLFB-4_j7niukQxUxogOhRYcnC0llIyMNyZeDuPxOgDMXSefajwXh8ih_A5cfC-czVkxsSR-17NX1xSi-/s1600/right+wall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6__K2B4PE5Bq4iBRd3aKNleRhgwF2WtvrJusea9EVAgwAnU7hc9blRcSjLhrrLFB-4_j7niukQxUxogOhRYcnC0llIyMNyZeDuPxOgDMXSefajwXh8ih_A5cfC-czVkxsSR-17NX1xSi-/s1600/right+wall.jpg" height="244" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Love the windows! They make me so happy, although I noticed that they are shorter than the windows that were in the room where I long-termed. </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I could not get the pictures of the other wall to merge, so that is all for now. </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I am super excited though, now that I see what I am working with, I can start to mentally plan out where I want everything to go...Exciting!!</span>TeacherinTraininghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18197548295367186770noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1452826018412293840.post-9204303883135775702013-05-22T09:47:00.002-07:002013-05-22T09:50:52.031-07:00No name? ....No problem!<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I have seen some really cute ideas for what to do with those no name papers that always seem to turn up. I was always amazed when, even though I gathered the papers myself and checked for names, there were always one or two without a name when I was grading. How does that even happen?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Anyway, as I am gathering ideas for my classroom (My own classroom! Can you tell I am still so excited?!) I wanted to make one of those cute no name signs like </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8V9w_R_AbWg2GFr0zI_vkSGHSm44NtbDQUVsDk3ysQJxoaODJNjJgJ6ONwOqFbacbWscSEbUcmUQtDL7XZc53niQrgG7kgq8Ge77N9dH2QcQayDDzpFjMJ-sIiW5tBmvqetstKLFqIKlC/s400/no+name+clips.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8V9w_R_AbWg2GFr0zI_vkSGHSm44NtbDQUVsDk3ysQJxoaODJNjJgJ6ONwOqFbacbWscSEbUcmUQtDL7XZc53niQrgG7kgq8Ge77N9dH2QcQayDDzpFjMJ-sIiW5tBmvqetstKLFqIKlC/s400/no+name+clips.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"> found on </span><a href="http://mrsbrowndotcom.blogspot.com/2012/06/more-crafting.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Mrs. Brown's Blog</span></a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"> . So I went on a Michael's shopping trip (any excuse to buy crafting stuff). I had planned on getting a blank board and then wood letters to place on top of the board. That was my crafty inspired vision, but they did not have letters the right size. (Too big or too small, I was channeling my inner Goldilocks). So, I looked around for some inspiration and found it in a little wooden owl.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-g6MNQLiYgHQ/UZz0xAnKBII/AAAAAAAAADM/kFycMue23GU/s1600/GEDC2774.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-g6MNQLiYgHQ/UZz0xAnKBII/AAAAAAAAADM/kFycMue23GU/s1600/GEDC2774.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">See him sitting down there in the corner? Isn't he cute? I love all of the owl themes this year, but I also like the birds, some of the cute trees, and the random animals I have seen lately. I have decided to have a woodsy theme in my classroom so I can use them all :-) </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-d5x8Yiq-rzY/UZz0xOhhP6I/AAAAAAAAADU/RhE6uuTUVJM/s1600/GEDC2776.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-d5x8Yiq-rzY/UZz0xOhhP6I/AAAAAAAAADU/RhE6uuTUVJM/s1600/GEDC2776.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Here it is all painted. Now I am ready to get out the glue gun and put it all together. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QdfyV1fdVjk/UZz0xN1LWlI/AAAAAAAAADQ/kypOiFhi9R0/s1600/GEDC2777.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QdfyV1fdVjk/UZz0xN1LWlI/AAAAAAAAADQ/kypOiFhi9R0/s1600/GEDC2777.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">All done! I added some glitter to the letters to make them stand out a little. I also used a sharpie to add some lines around the frame. I had to stagger the clothespins a bit because the alligator's length threw everything off. I love it though :-)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">What do you do with the No namers?</span> <br />

I am so beyond excited. I jumped up and down when they called me to offer me the job (the third grade team was in the background yelling, I imagine they were jumping up and down too) :-) .</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">So now I sit and think of next year. Whew! There is a a lot to do! <u>3rd grade</u>! I have so many things I need. I have an entire closet full of things for K-1st grade (thanks to my amazing teacher friend who retired and passed her stuff to me), but now I will be teaching 3rd grade. (<i>Ahh, multiplication, division, fractions</i>). </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I was looking up teacher discounts and found a BUNCH of shops that offer discounts to teachers. You can see lists of them <a href="http://www.fatwallet.com/blog/teacher-discounts-cheat-sheet/" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://www.giftcardgranny.com/blog/the-complete-list-of-66-teacher-discounts/" target="_blank">here</a> . There are so many out there that I did not even know about! Make sure to look in the comments section as well because many people have been adding to the lists. </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">So, where is your favorite place to save money? Do you have any that are not on the list? I know that here in Arizona, Bookmans (a used books and more store) offers a teacher discount of 20% through their Project:Educate program - cool! If you live in Arizona, you can sign up <a href="http://bookmans.com/community/project-educate" target="_blank">here</a> . Have any to share?</span>TeacherinTraininghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18197548295367186770noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1452826018412293840.post-4165369939572912672013-05-01T09:53:00.004-07:002013-05-01T09:53:58.529-07:00....I have an interview!<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="color: blue;">Ok, this is it, the time has finally come. I have an interview for a teaching position! I am super excited, and also really nervous. I know this school and they know me, but I am still nervous. A lot is riding on this. My hopes, my dreams, my future...gasp! Ok, maybe I should not put so much pressure on myself over this, breathe. Whew.</span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I am getting my portfolio ready. It will include</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">My resume (which includes my educational philosophy)</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">My classroom management plan</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">My professional growth plan for my first 5 years of teaching</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Three lessons (1 math, 1 science, and 1 social studies)</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I will be going down today to purchase a binder, page protectors (oh wait, I have some already) and page separators.</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Is that it? Am I good? Is there anything else I need/ should have?</span>TeacherinTraininghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18197548295367186770noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1452826018412293840.post-86392367164460004692013-04-29T10:32:00.001-07:002013-04-29T10:32:43.547-07:00Waiting is Hard<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">This waiting stuff is difficult for me. I am a planner (to the extreme sometimes). I like to have my ducks in a row, ya know? I like to know the Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How's of my life/future. Yet, here I sit with a big ole' </span><span style="font-size: x-large;">?</span><span style="font-size: large;"> staring at me. I don't like question marks when it comes to my future....<i>they bug me</i>.</span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I am LOVING the time at home spent with my little girl. She is enjoying it too. I know that <strike>when</strike> , <strike>if?,</strike> no when I get a job that this time will not be there; and yet I am still wanting to know what my future holds. </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I mentioned before that there is a possible 3rd grade spot at the school I long-termed at. I am just waiting <i>patiently</i> (not really, more like stalking my e-mail several times a day) for the interview. While waiting, I have been stalking 3rd grade blogs, and filling a file on my desktop with all things third grade. I know it seems silly when I don't have the job yet....but it helps me feel like I am doing some sort of planning. It has worked so far, to keep my nerves and ambitious ideas at bay (and busy). Now, however, I feel like it is not enough. I need to be more prepared (for a job I don't even have! I know, I am a spaz). </span><span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Sigh</span><span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">.</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">So, what did you do while waiting for your permanent spot? How did you bridge the working everyday on school,student teaching, lesson plans, grades, etc. (and for me it continued into a long-term sub. position) to the nothingness of waiting? </span>TeacherinTraininghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18197548295367186770noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1452826018412293840.post-20943655657825137792013-04-16T09:33:00.000-07:002013-04-16T09:35:07.642-07:00The road to good intentions.....<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Well, I had <i>intended</i> to make this a great blog. I wanted to post throughout my journey as a student, a graduate, and then as I became a teacher. Hmmm, you can see how well <i>that</i> turned out. I am <b>horrible.</b> </span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><u>Where I am now...</u></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Toward the end of my student teaching, I was asked to interview for a long-term sub. position at another school. It was for a first grade classroom, and would start in Jan. (I finished student teaching in November). </span><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">How perfect!</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"> It was almost like I would pick up where I left off. I got the job and I <b>LOVED</b> it! There were some bumps along the way, but I handled them well. I began to love the students and love the school. I received lots of praise by many of the staff as they saw how I dealt with issues that came up (as they always do). Some outside sources were in the room to observe a student and they though I had been teaching for years (</span><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><b>woohoo!</b></span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">). </span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The position ended the first week of this month and I must say it was hard to say good-bye. Erasing my name off the board felt so final. Then I came home and was left with a "<i>now what</i>?" feeling. I had been so used to grading papers, writing lesson plans, creating centers, and looking for new ideas every weekend. I had been doing that since I started student teaching in August. I was left with nothing to do. </span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I hope for a permanent position next year, but without knowing what grade it is hard to plan. I feel antsy. All of these ideas and they just bounce around my head waiting for an outlet.</span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The principal has asked me to interview for a 3rd grade position. At first I was <strike>terrified</strike> <strike>freaked out</strike> nervous about the idea, I have spent so many years in K, 1, and 2. However, I am excited at the possibility now. I have to wait a couple of weeks for the interview, but I am hopeful. I must say, the wait is so hard!. I do not do well with unknowns. I like to have a plan. </span><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><u>Waiting is hard.</u></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">So, in the meantime, I am finding and reading as many 3rd grade blogs as I can find.....just in case (fingers crossed). </span></span>TeacherinTraininghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18197548295367186770noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1452826018412293840.post-15815391521343162672012-10-12T10:21:00.000-07:002012-10-12T10:23:17.891-07:00A little catch-up<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">So, I had planned on posting while I was student teaching. I wanted to document my experience and share ideas. Sadly, that has not happened. I have seminar classes during my student teaching and with a toddler, teenager, and a naughty puppy, I have been overwhelmed. </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Student teaching is going well. I enjoy looking for new ideas and making things to use in the classroom. Like many of you, we use/do? Daily 5 during our reading block. One of the first things I added to the classroom was a boggle board. The classroom theme is bees, so I made the board in black and yellow.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJou8_yn75qI47eakJXpTrg5Xnr0nYWZrvQ0fJxn1B6-norNEyjgp4LxqguEoug7wIdnktF9JYDDrkkjiN0c-PNXPuNe1dAUmrXMPiP0tm_u4cMqY_nshKZ-H4Gy8BRbsysOroVQwu2WK6/s1600/GEDC2231.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJou8_yn75qI47eakJXpTrg5Xnr0nYWZrvQ0fJxn1B6-norNEyjgp4LxqguEoug7wIdnktF9JYDDrkkjiN0c-PNXPuNe1dAUmrXMPiP0tm_u4cMqY_nshKZ-H4Gy8BRbsysOroVQwu2WK6/s320/GEDC2231.JPG" width="316" /></span></a></div>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Yep, it is on the door because that is the only free space left :-). The kids love it. As they enter and exit the room they are always noticing new words. I realize the top is crooked, I fixed that later. I change the letters every week to coordinate with the weekly lessons. I always hide at least one spelling word and try to place an emphasis on the week's sound focus. </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Then I made those adorable iPhones for spelling practice. They are a favorite during Daily 5 Word Work.</span><br />

Where did I go?<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Oh my goodness, I have been MIA for weeks now! I will be starting my 6th week of Student teaching this coming Monday and the weeks have flown by. My extra time is filled with lesson planning, finding/making things to use in the classroom, and now my Seminar 1. Phew. </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Everything has been going wonderfully in the classroom. It feels great to be back working with children, and I stepped back into the roll with ease. The first week was just observing the teacher and her style so I fell back in to para pro mode. I must say that it is weird being called by my last name though. For ten years as a para pro I was known by my first name; Miss Michelle. I have been caught still referring to myself by that title. </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Each week I have added a new lesson to what I will be teaching. This coming week I will be teaching math, oral language, grammar, phonics, and middle (on) level small groups. We also use Daily 5 as a transition/break-up of the Reading block. I have made/found games to use in the Daily 5 that focus on the weekly skills. I made a Boggle board for our door (I have received so many compliments from the other teachers), iPhones to practice spelling words, and last week I made a spinner game for our word endings -s, -ed, -ing. This week I am looking for -all word games, something for learning asking sentences, and contractions n't and 's. </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">I had my first unofficial observation the third week and my midterm observation last week. Wow!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="color: blue; font-size: large;">My one main hurdle is the schedule. Every day is different. It is crazy. I found out last week that I do not need to write the detailed lesson plans that I have been writing (woohoo!) but coming up with a simple 5-day template is almost impossible because there is no common structures to the day. The only thing that does not change is breakfast and lunch</span>. </span>TeacherinTraininghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18197548295367186770noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1452826018412293840.post-65008802048663221922012-08-11T09:17:00.000-07:002012-08-11T09:17:37.407-07:00How Do You Plan Linky Party!!<div align="center">

<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">So I am joining the How Do You Plan Linky Party hosted by Mrs. Stanfords Class. Looking through the blogs, I have noticed that most of you use the similar small squares across the week format for your plans. These are what I have seen in the classrooms as well. However, still being a student teacher, I have to follow a completely different (</span><i style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">read</span></i><span style="font-size: large;"> <span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">extremely</span><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> detailed)format. </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Instead of just writing - </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Teach this, </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">with this book, </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">and this activity....</span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I have to include </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Subject, </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Grade level, </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Time required, </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">materials,</span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">standards, </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Instructional </span></span></span><span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">objectives, </span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">behavioral objectives, </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Launch, </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">exploration</span><span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">, </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">summary, </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">independent</span><span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> practice, </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">differentiation, </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">assessment, </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">technology. </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Ack! </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">This is why I am<i><strike> freaking out</strike> </i>worried about lesson planning. A lesson like that takes me at least 2 hours if not more. I have to script it out completely (what will I say, what will the kids say, etc). </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I plan on using a smaller, calendar type format for my in the classroom reference. I made one using the idea from </span></span><a href="http://wisewittyteacher.blogspot.ca/2012/02/pinterest-inspired-presidents-and-diy.html?showComment=1329706324428" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: x-large;">The Wise and Witty Teacher</a><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"> Using post-it notes so I can move things around if I need to. The closer I get to the start of my student teaching, the more I seem to want to read about all of you out there in teacher land. As I stop by, I notice so many giveaways happening, so of course I enter. Now, I enter but never expect to win. I never win anything, really. BUT, I just won two. Yep, that is right TWO giveaways. I am not sure how that even happened, my grandmother was the lucky one in the family, not me. Now that my luck is changing maybe I should go to Vegas. Naw, I think I will just enter more giveaways :-) winning teacher stuff is sooo much more fun! Anyway, my first was from </span><br />

<a href="http://1stgradefascination.blogspot.com/"><img alt="First Grade Fascination" border="0" height="125" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WT6SOtfsfsU/T-acsh-0eGI/AAAAAAAAADE/xU6SVEgjSs4/s1600/button.png" width="125" /></a></center>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">I won a set of her back to school math and literacy centers. You can choose from frogs or owls. I loved both, but chose owls. SO CUTE! Check out her TPT store at <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Rebecca-Johnson-7/">http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Rebecca-Johnson-7/</a> </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Rebecca-Johnson-7/"></a>I also won a giveaway over at </span><br />
<div align="center">
<a href="http://lanierlions.blogspot.com/" title="Lanier's Kindergarten Lions"><img alt="Lanier's Kindergarten Lions" src="http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p498/NicoLanier1/Blog-Button.png?t=1339604638" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;" /></a></div>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">The giveaway was for one item from her TPT or TN store. I chose the Number Math Centers from her TPT store at <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Laniers-Kindergarten-Lions/">http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Laniers-Kindergarten-Lions/</a><a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Laniers-Kindergarten-Lions/"></a>Awesome! </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">I am so excited to print these and get them ready for the students. </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Now a question. How do you print all of your TPT buys/wins/finds? Do you print them at home? (WOW that is a lot of ink!), print them at a printing store..is that more cost effective? Or print them at school, will I be able to do that as a student teacher?</span>TeacherinTraininghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18197548295367186770noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1452826018412293840.post-37328990319669792992012-07-28T12:09:00.000-07:002012-07-28T13:24:18.774-07:00Great resource for Kindergarten and First grade teachers<span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Some of you may already know about Harry Kindergarten, but for those who don't you should check it out. Harry Kindergarten (great name) is a channel on Youtube. Mr. Harry is a kindergarten teacher in PA. He creates songs and videos for his class, focusing on literacy, math, social studies, and behavior. There may even be a few science songs in there as well. His videos are fun and "hip." The children really enjoy them. One of the teachers I observed, used Harry kindergarten as a technology resource for many of her lessons. So, if you have not heard of Harry Kindergarten yet, check him out at <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/HarryKindergarten">http://www.youtube.com/user/HarryKindergarten</a></span><br />

Eventually, they will use the information they gather to create professional development videos and open their own school. You can read more, and even suggest schools for them to visit here: <a href="http://www.good.is/post/three-teachers-are-on-a-nationwide-quest-to-design-and-open-the-ultimate-school/">http://www.good.is/post/three-teachers-are-on-a-nationwide-quest-to-design-and-open-the-ultimate-school/</a></span><br />

What? Three weeks? Ack! That means <em>I</em> start in three weeks too. How did that sneak up on me so fast? <em><span style="font-size: x-small;">Anxiety attack - breathe</span></em>. Ok, so in three weeks I will begin my student teaching. So I started thinking that I should seek out some advice. Who better to ask than people who have been there before, right? So, what is your advice as I begin this new chapter. What did you wish someone had told you before you started? What is the one piece of advice you wish you had been given?</span>TeacherinTraininghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18197548295367186770noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1452826018412293840.post-91403080349793158462012-07-21T18:29:00.001-07:002012-07-21T18:38:34.074-07:00A Little Blog Hop<span style="background-color: #b6d7a8; color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I have my first follower! The teacher asked for classroom helpers and I volunteered. Wow, I loved it! I came every day that year. When the end of the year rolled around, they offered me a job :-). I became a parapro and really enjoyed my job. I loved working with the children and had some amazing teachers to work with as well. Everyone kept asking me when I was going to be a teacher. The more they asked, the more I started really thinking about it. I realized how much I loved working in education. I had dreams of my own classroom. So, I made the decision to go back to school and earn my degree. Now the time has come when I have finished my classes! (What? I can't believe I am finally here!) I will be student teaching this fall! August is coming fast and I have found myself growing more nervous, actually terrified! Today, however, I turned a corner. As I thought about this coming school year I began to feel excited. I have made progress :-)</span>TeacherinTraininghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18197548295367186770noreply@blogger.com4
